Organizational Tips for K-12 Classroom Teachers

Because of laws regarding the confidentiality of students' grades, it is imperative that teachers both keep student work organized and make certain that students do not have access to one another's graded papers.

The key to this is having a folder for holding the "ready to be passed back" work for each class.

Tip:  At the end of the day, determine which students were absent from each class and put their missed work in the correct folders.

For example, Dionne missed World History today.  The students went over a PowerPoint in class, completed a worksheet, and were given a DBQ printable as homework.  At the end of the day, the teacher marks a PowerPoint handout, a worksheet, and a DBQ with Dionne's name.  The teacher then places these sheets into the outgoing folder for Dionne's class.  Dionne thus is guaranteed to get her missing work the next day when papers are passed out.  If Dionne stops by before school to pick up her work, the teacher knows exactly where it is.
