Tips: Florida is full of sunshine,
making it a gorgeous place to live. The socio-political
mindset is fairly conservative. Florida also boasts a
sizeable Cuban immigrant/refugee population, which means that
teacher applicants with some knowledge of Spanish will have an
advantage over their competitors. The more "vacation-like" the location, the harder it is to find a teaching or administrative position in Florida. This is because a lot of retired teachers and administrators from other parts of the country choose to semi-retire in Florida (what teachers call "double dipping"). For example, a teacher from Michigan with 30 years of experience decides to start drawing a Michigan teacher pension, meanwhile relocating to a sunny spot Florida and working as a teacher or administrator. Many younger teachers find that they cannot compete in the teacher markets of places like Key West. |
