Ohio tends to be conservative in the south (Dayton, areas in Appalachia) and rural areas, and liberal in the north (Toledo, Cleveland).  The scenery drastically changes from quiet farmland to busy urban centers.

The industrial areas have been hard hit by the failing manufacturing industries, so teaching jobs can be hard to find in the state.  The cost of living is general pretty low.
