In the name of God, Amen. We, whose names underwritten, the loyal subjects of our dread Sovereigne Lord, James, by the grace of God, of Great Britaine, and Ireland king, defender of the faith, etc. having , for the glory of God, and advancement of the faith, and honour of our king and country, a to plant the first colony in the Northerne parts Virginia, doe by these presents solemnly and mutually in presence of God and one of another, covenant and ourselves together into a civill body politick, for our ordering and preservation, and furtherance of the ends aforesaid; by virtue hereof to enacte, constitute, and frame such and equall laws, ordinances, acts, constitutions and offices, from to time, as shall be thought most meete and for the generall good of the Colonie unto which promise all due submission and obedience. In witness whereof have hereunder subscribed our names at Cape-Codd the 11. of , in the year of the raigne of our sovereigne , King James, of England, France and Ireland, the eighteenth, of Scotland the fiftie-fourth. Anno Dom. 1620.
