1. John Brown led a raid on Harpers Ferry in Virginia (now West Virginia). Identify Harpers Ferry on the map.

2. Dred Scott was taken from Missouri, a slave state, to Illinois, a free state. Identify Missouri and Illinois on the map.

3. The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, signed on February 2, 1848, gave the United States undisputed control of Texas, established the United States-Mexico border along the Rio Grande, and ceded to the United States the present-day states of California, Nevada, and Utah, most of Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico, as well as parts of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Wyoming. On the map, identify: a. Texas, b. Rio Grande, c. California, d. Nevada, e. Utah, f. New Mexico, g. Arizona, h. Colorado, i. Oklahoma, j. Kansas, k. Wyoming.

4. The Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 repealed the Missouri Compromise, leading to “Bleeding Kansas.” Identify Kansas and Nebraska.
