Sanford Ballard Dole (1844-1926)

Sanford Ballard Dole was born in 1844 in Honolulu, Hawaii, to missionary parents. Educated in both Hawaii and the United States, Dole would come to play a pivotal role in the forced removal of Queen Liliuokalani from her throne, and the formation of Hawaii as a United States territory. Sanford B. Dole is not the "Pineapple King" founder of the Dole Food company; that honor belongs to his first cousin once removed, James Dole, who came to Hawaii in 1899.
