"Minding Baby, Cherry Hill, New York City, 1890." Photograph by Jacob Riis, featured in his book How the Other Half Lives (1890). Riis is famous for his depictions of immigrant life in the slums of New York City at the turn of the last century, a period called the "Gilded Age" by American writer Mark Twain in his book The Gilded Age, available for purchase here.
