Edmund Cartwright (1743-1823). Edmund Cartwright was a British inventor. Born in Nottinghamshire, he died in Hastings, Sussex. Cartwright invented the power loom, a machine for weaving, that revolutionized the textile industry and helped to usher in the First Industrial Revolution.
