According to the Old Testament, the first task of the ancient Hebrews, led by Joshua (the successor of Moses) in entering Canaan was capturing the city of Jericho. According to historians and archaeologists, Jericho is famous as the world's oldest occupied city, having first been settled approximately 9,000 years ago. With the help of "Rahab the harlot," the Israelites learned about the inner workings of the city. Miraculously, God caused the city's walls to crumble, then come tumbling down, making it easy for the Israelites to enter. The only family spared from the Hebrews' swords was that of Rahab.
