Using learning games can be an effective way to help high school World History students understand the rise of fascism between World War I and World War II. Games engage students actively, encouraging participation and deeper thinking. For example, role-playing or simulation games can allow students to step into the shoes of citizens, leaders, or political groups from the 1920s and 1930s. This helps them explore the social, economic, and political conditions—such as the Treaty of Versailles, the Great Depression, and fear of communism--that contributed to the rise of fascist leaders like Mussolini and Hitler. Games can also promote collaboration, discussion, and critical thinking as students make decisions based on historical context and evaluate the consequences. Through these interactive experiences, students can better grasp abstract concepts like propaganda, authoritarianism, and nationalism. By turning complex historical events into relatable scenarios, learning games can deepen understanding and make the study of history more memorable and meaningful. |
