The Tokugawa Shogunate, also known as the Tokugawa Bakufu, was a feudal military government that ruled Japan from 1603 to 1868. It was founded by Tokugawa Ieyasu, who became the first Tokugawa shogun and established his government in Edo, which later became Tokyo. The Tokugawa Shogunate is one of the most influential periods in Japanese history and marked a long era of relative peace, stability, and isolation from the outside world.
