Prominent writers of the Romantic period, which flourished in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, focused on emotion, nature, individualism, and imagination. In England, William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge led the movement with their collection Lyrical Ballads. Lord Byron, Percy Bysshe Shelley, and John Keats were known for their passionate and expressive poetry. In Germany, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe influenced both literature and philosophy with works like Faust. Mary Shelley, author of Frankenstein, combined Gothic and Romantic elements. These writers challenged Enlightenment ideals by emphasizing feeling over reason and celebrating the natural world and the human spirit. |
