A medieval armorer played a vital role in the military and social structure of the Middle Ages, crafting protective gear for knights and soldiers. Armorers specialized in designing and forging suits of armor, helmets, shields, and sometimes weapons, using materials like iron and steel. Their work required exceptional skill in metallurgy and blacksmithing, as well as knowledge of anatomy to ensure mobility and comfort. Early armor included chainmail, but by the 14th and 15th centuries, full plate armor became common, offering greater protection in battle.

Armorers often worked in guilds, especially in large cities, where they could collaborate with other craftsmen and access quality materials. Wealthy nobles and royalty would commission custom armor, often decorated with engravings or family crests. The armorer had to balance protection with weight, ensuring that the armor could withstand blows while allowing the wearer to move efficiently.

Beyond battle, armor also served ceremonial purposes. Parade armor, elaborately adorned, showcased power and prestige. The work of a medieval armorer was both practical and artistic, blending engineering with craftsmanship. Their contributions were essential to medieval warfare, enabling soldiers to face combat with improved defense and confidence.
