RESIDENCE OF THE PRESENT ALCALDE OF NUEVA GERONA, ISLE OF PINES (ISLA DE LA JUVENTUD): This photograph shows the family of Dr. Fernando Plazaola, the former insurgent leader, now Mayor of Nueva Gerona. It was Dr. Plazaola who shielded Evangelina Cisneros after her first escape from the former Alcalde's soldiers. Spanish-American War, Cuba, 1898.
