Louisiana Purchase, 1803.

Signed on April 30, 1803, the Louisiana Purchase doubled the size of the young United States.

President Thomas Jefferson bought this area west of the Mississippi River, approximately 828,000 square miles, from France (then ruled by Napoléon Bonaparte) for $15,000,000 (around four cents per acre).
