A canvas tarpaulin is used for a church, and packing cases serve as an altar. A Navy chaplain is seen here holding mass for Marines at Saipan. This service was held in memory of these servicemen's brave buddies who lost their lives in the initial landings. Photograph taken by Sergeant Steele in June, 1944. Click here to enlarge.
