Djibouti's economy is driven primarily by its service and transportation industries, with agriculture playing a minimal role due to the country's arid climate and limited arable land. Industry in Djibouti is centered around port services, logistics, and international shipping. Located at the crossroads of major maritime routes between the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean, Djibouti hosts one of the busiest and most strategically important ports in Africa. This port serves as a vital outlet for landlocked Ethiopia and has attracted significant foreign investment. The industrial sector also includes some food processing, salt production, and construction materials.

Agriculture contributes only a small portion to Djibouti's economy due to harsh environmental conditions. Farming is largely limited to small-scale subsistence agriculture and livestock herding, especially goats and camels. Some irrigation-supported farming produces vegetables and fruits in limited quantities.

Recreation in Djibouti is influenced by its natural landscapes and coastline. Tourists and residents enjoy activities such as snorkeling and diving along coral reefs, exploring Lake Assal and the volcanic landscapes, and hiking in the Goda Mountains. Djibouti's geothermal features, marine biodiversity, and desert scenery offer unique recreational opportunities. Though tourism is still developing, it has the potential to grow as infrastructure and international awareness improve.
