The stunning mosaic on the National Historical Museum in Tirana, titled "The Albanians," is a monumental example of late Albanian Socialist Realism. Created in 1980 by five artists—including Vilson Kilica and Josif Droboniku—it spans approximately 40x11 meters and depicts thirteen historic figures, from Illyrian warriors to WWII partisans. Above the main entrance on Skanderbeg Square, it visually narrates Albania's struggle against invasions and its revolutionary journey. The mosaic was restored after the 2019 earthquake, with EU and UNOPS support, preserving its cultural and historical significance. |
