Capital city: Albany, located on the west bank of the Hudson River, has been the state capital since 1797 and is a center for government, education, and technology.

Population: With an estimated population of over 19.5 million, New York is the fourth most populous state, though it is home to the nation's most populous city.

Governor: Kathy Hochul, a Democrat, became the state's first female governor in August 2021 following Andrew Cuomo's resignation.

Number of electoral votes: New York has 28 electoral votes in presidential elections, reflecting its large population, though this number has declined in recent decades.

Agricultural products: Despite its urban image, New York is a top producer of dairy, particularly yogurt and cheese, along with apples, grapes for wine, maple syrup, and cabbage.

Industries: Dominant industries include finance on Wall Street, media and publishing, technology, healthcare, higher education, fashion, and a massive tourism and service sector.

Geographical features: The state features the Adirondack Mountains, the Catskills, the Finger Lakes, the Great Lakes shoreline, the Hudson River Valley, and Long Island.

Tourist attractions: Iconic attractions include New York City's Statue of Liberty and Broadway, Niagara Falls, the Adirondack Park, and historic sites like the Baseball Hall of Fame.
