Adolf Hitler (1889-1945) as an infant. This innocent-looking baby, born in Braunau am Inn, Austria-Hungary, would ultimately be responsible for the deaths of countless millions, including an estimated 6 to 8 million civilians—Jews, Roma (Gypsies), Poles, Soviets, disabled persons, Jehovah's Witnesses, homosexuals, and others.
The most well-known philosophical question to ask students on this topic is: If you were sent back in time to when Hitler was a baby, would you kill him to prevent the Holocaust?
The "trick" answer is that one can theoretically prevent the Holocaust and not kill baby Hitler by simply bringing him back to the present and raising him in a loving home.
