While in the short term Hitler somewhat improved Germany's economy, his poor leadership ultimately left the country in complete disarray. Within little more than a decade, millions of German Jews had been killed or fled. By 1945, millions of German civilians and servicemen had lost their lives. In 1945, Germany was a devastated land.
