We are trying to flesh out our history listings, as well as provide plenty of general interest documentary films to keep students' minds occupied over the summer. Click here to see the latest.

May 2012 was a month of significant political transitions, a landmark corporate acquisition, and a captivating celestial event.

Politically, the month was defined by leadership changes. In France, the socialist François Hollande was inaugurated as President on the 15th, defeating incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy and shifting the European political landscape. Concurrently, Greece faced profound instability following inconclusive elections on the 6th, which intensified the European debt crisis and raised urgent questions about the country's future in the Eurozone.

In the business world, a historic deal was finalized on the 21st: Facebook acquired the mobile photo-sharing app Instagram for approximately $1 billion, a move that was initially met with skepticism but would prove transformative for social media.

The month also delivered a spectacular astronomical phenomenon. On the 20th, an annular solar eclipse—often called a "ring of fire" eclipse—was visible across a wide swath of the Pacific Rim, from Asia to the western United States, captivating millions of observers.

Finally, in sports, Manchester City secured the English Premier League title in dramatic fashion on the 13th, scoring two injury-time goals to clinch their first championship in 44 years, in what is remembered as one of the most thrilling finishes in football history.
