Crossing of the Red Sea by Nicolas Poussin (1634) depicts Moses parting the waters of the Red Sea so that the Israelites can flee from pharaoh's forces during the Hebrew exodus from Egypt.

The story of the parting of the Red Sea is similar to a tale told in ancient Mesopotamian creation mythology.
