During the Neolithic Revolution (10,000-4,500 B.C.E.), hunters developed advanced tools to adapt to changing environments and subsistence strategies. As societies transitioned from nomadic hunting-gathering to settled agriculture, hunting remained vital, and tools became more specialized.

Early hunters used flint-tipped spears and bows and arrows for hunting game such as gazelles, wild boar, and deer. Microliths—small, sharp stone blades—were hafted into wooden shafts to create composite weapons, improving efficiency. Arrowheads evolved from simple flint points to barbed and tanged designs, enhancing penetration.

Trapping also became common; hunters used snares and pits to capture animals. Additionally, the domestication of dogs aided in tracking and retrieving prey. Sling shots, made from woven fibers or leather, were used for smaller game and birds.

As agriculture emerged, hunting tools diversified. Bone hooks and fishing nets appeared near rivers, while axes and adzes—originally for woodworking—were repurposed for butchering. The increased use of obsidian, traded across regions, allowed for sharper, more durable blades.

These innovations reflect the Neolithic shift toward resource diversification, blending traditional hunting with emerging farming practices. The period laid the groundwork for later technological advances in weaponry and toolmaking across the ancient world.
