The Neolithic Revolution (10,000-4,500 B.C.E.) brought transformative advancements in toolmaking as societies shifted from hunting-gathering to agriculture. New tools were developed to support farming, food processing, and settled life.

One major innovation was the polished stone axe, essential for clearing forests and building homes. Unlike earlier crude flint axes, these were ground smooth for durability. Sickles with flint blades set in wooden or bone handles allowed efficient harvesting of wild and domesticated grains. Mortars and pestles were used to grind cereals into flour, enabling bread production.

Pottery emerged as a crucial technology, with fired clay vessels used for storage, cooking, and trade. The plow, later enhanced by animal traction, revolutionized crop cultivation. Weaving tools, such as spindle whorls and loom weights, facilitated textile production from wool and flax.

Additionally, advancements in projectile points—like barbed arrows and spearheads—improved hunting efficiency. Obsidian blades, traded over long distances, provided sharper edges for cutting and butchering.

These innovations not only supported agricultural life but also spurred trade, specialization, and urbanization, laying the foundation for early civilizations in the Near East and beyond.
