While not as artistically dominant as Italian cities like Florence, Paris played a key role in the spread of Renaissance humanism and intellectual life. The University of Paris attracted scholars from across Europe, promoting classical studies, theology, and philosophy. The city experienced architectural renewal, with Gothic structures coexisting alongside Renaissance-inspired buildings. The printing press contributed to the growth of literature and education, helping ideas circulate more widely. Paris also became a hub for royal power and courtly culture, especially under Francis I, who supported the arts and invited Italian artists to France. The city's lively markets, growing population, and intellectual energy made it a vital part of the Northern Renaissance. |
