Capital city: Hartford, located in the north-central part of the state along the Connecticut River, has served as the sole capital since 1875. Population: Connecticut has an estimated population of approximately 3.6 million people, making it the 29th most populous state in the U.S. Governor: The governor of Connecticut in 2026 is Ned Lamont, a Democrat who was first elected in 2018 and began his second term in 2023. Agricultural products: Notable products include nursery and greenhouse items, dairy, eggs, and apples. The state is also known for its tobacco. Industries: Key industries include advanced manufacturing, aerospace, insurance and finance (Hartford is the "Insurance Capital"), biotechnology, and submarine construction. Geographical features: The state features a long coastline on Long Island Sound, the fertile Connecticut River Valley, and rolling hills in the Litchfield region.
